Survey Reveals San Francisco Is the Best Place to Live

A survey has revealed that San Francisco was the top choice of people wanted to live, while Sydney came in the second place. More interesting findings has been revealed in this surveys.

Big cities have a lot to offer from art galleries, plays, vibrant nightlife spots, dining options to a fuse of different cultures and public transportation, but they also have their downfalls. Noise, pollution, higher expenses and of course, minimal space can be major factors in deciding whether or not the city is for you. Small towns, on the other hand, can have all the same perks metropolitan areas have plus that great "small town" feeling. It's that really strong sense of community that draws people in and actually knowing who everyone is.

In further exploring this, a survey has been conducted across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific within 1000 people. Results demonstrated which places were the best to live along with what factors come into play when deciding where to live.

Of all participants globally, San Francisco was the top choice of where people wanted to live

It seems like San Francisco took the win in this despite its economic state. After all, the bay is what defines this city the best. But who could also forget the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Cupid's Span and Fisherman's Wharf! No wonder many selected this as their number one choice. Interesting enough, the harbor city of Sydney came in second with Amsterdam in third. London and New York were both tied in fourth place. Tough call between Big Ben and the Big Apple.

More women chose San Francisco, while more men chose Sydney

San Francisco may have been the top choice among employees, but women were 25% more likely to choose this place than men. However, the complete opposite was true when it came to Sydney. Men were 8 times more likely to choose this city than women. Any guesses why?

People rather live in more urban/city areas over rural ones

47% preferred living in urban/city areas, while only 10% preferred a rural area. Quite a difference given what each has to offer. While the city is a much faster pace of life, seems like there's a lower interest in the tranquility of the countryside. The suburbs, on the other hand, follows right below the urban/city areas with 43% preferring this.

Employment opportunities is given a slightly higher value

The things people value make a difference in deciding where to live. About 5 out of 10 participants thought employment opportunities were important in regards to this. As for the rest, such as cultural and entertainment, weather/climate and family friendliness/lifestyle openness, only 4 out of 10 participants thought these were important.

Different regions have different values

As with anything, depending on where you're from will dictate which values matter most. Americans, for example, value employment opportunities the most. Nearly 64% of them thought this played a part in deciding where to live. Similarly, Asian put the most emphasis on employment opportunities with 55% believing so. Europeans, on the other hand, valued cultural and entertainment venues AND family friendliness the most.
